We Struggle with
being individuals

No other person
will ever think
exactly like you

Be an Individual First

I Am My Own Individual Island

My Definition of being an Individual

I wrote this short document to address my thoughts of "who am I" and "why am I different" from others. Sometimes, I think we feel a need to be what others want us to be, or we feel that we have to agree with others just to remain friends. Yet, when we are alone, it's our mirror that is the thing that we must face and this document helps me to enjoy me as I look into my mirror.

Defining Myself

When I attempt to define myself, I consider my thoughts, my emotions, my feelings, my knowledge, my heart, my physical appearance, my life experiences, my loves, my children, my parents, my brother and sisters, my friends, things that I like, things that I dislike. When I attempt to define myself, I consider all the intangibles and intricacies of my life that cause me to feel good or bad about my day to day thoughts and feelings.

I add all this stuff together and I come to realize that there are a lot of things that equal me, a lot of calculations each micro second that cause me to feel specifically about a subject. These same calculations cause me to feel specifically about other people, about life and what life means to me.

My Individual Mental Calculations

I also realize that, it’s the accumulation of all the stuff in the first paragraph that affect the conclusion of my calculations, which directly affect what my specific feelings are about a specific subject or of people in general.

I understand that I am extremely complex and the complexity of my individual system cannot ever be similar to any other human being on earth, specifically because of the numerous different attributes within me, all of which, have limitless possibilities of individual attribute results… at the same time.

No Other will ever equal me

Understanding the infinite possible results of the accumulation of my individual attributes, I have concluded that “I am my own individual island”. There will never be an exact duplicate human being on earth because of the numerous possible attributes outcomes that cause us all to think the way that we do about all things in our lives. There are possibilities that others may think or feel the way I do about a specific subject, but there similarities will be restricted to small numbers of like feelings. We may like the same time of music, perhaps we may like the same type of weather, but, we will never like a list of things at similar degrees.

So, I look at myself as being a single island in the middle of the ocean and it’s my right to have rules specific to my island, laws specific to my island, feelings specific to my island and thoughts specific to my island. No other human being have the right to land on my island and call my island rules and laws “wrong” and it’s equally right, that any other human being, to have their own individual island laws, laws that are specific to that specific individual.

Respect My Individualism

Thus, I am my own Island, so don’t come on my island and expect me to change the way that I run my island and I won’t come on your island and suggest that you are wrong for the way that you run your island. Your Island is yours, my Island is mine, I’ll respect your Island and I demand that you respect mine.

It is impossible for any two Islands to be exactly the same, so don’t try to be anyone other than yourself.
