A Reflection.... After The Harm Has Been Done
Paterno, in a interview with Sally Jenkins, revealed that
"I Wish I had done more"...,
Obviously, everyone should know that Paterno is speaking of his past Defensive Coordinator Mr. Sandusky, who is currently in jail, pending trial of allegations of Molesting more than a dozen young boys, while working at Pen State.
The Truth to the matter of life is, we all have done something that we regret, we all have done something that we would like to change, but, when the thing that you want to change, is associated with the harming of another human being, the degradation of another human being,or a crime against another human being..., the guilt felt in ones heart today for turning the other cheek many years ago...., requires more than a insufficient acknowledgement of "not doing more".
The Specific information that Paterno is referring to, is..., being told by his assistant coach that he witnessed Sandusky raping a boy in the Pen State Men's Shower". Paterno, subsequently, told the Athletic Director and not the police, and for that reason, the allegations against Mr. Sandusky, were not investigated immediately.
9 years later, here we are, dozens of children harmed, many after Paterno's lack of proper action, and now that Paterno has been fired, and the anger has subsided, he has decided to express his emotions in an interview.
At nearly 90 years old, Paterno now reflects.
The Problem:
To many things that has transpired in our past have gone un-acknowledged, un-revealed, un-discovered, un-punished...., all because so many people chose not to get involved, chose not to ruffle feathers, chose not to snitch, or chose not to take the correct actions of standing up for "right and wrong", when the time mattered.
People have been beaten and witnesses have kept their mouth shut for decades, people have been raped, people have been lynched, people have been murdered, and the witnesses have opted to not take a stand in the past.., still to this day, have not found it in their heart to acknowledge, or reveal information that they have kept hidden for "X" amount of years.
The Pain in the hearts of the victims and the victims family remain without resolution. The Pain of a lost loved one, or the pain of knowing of a rape of a friend, a family member.., remains in the form of a burden..., until the burden is released.
The only way that a human being can understand the ramifications of someone withholding information, or knowledge of a wrong doing.., is to have a family member, or a close friend, who is, or was a victim of a crime that went un-solved.
It's Never To Late:
Millions of American Citizens are harboring information of a past wrong, and if feel anything for those boys who were raped by Mr. Sandusky, to the extent that you can empathize with Paterno's acknowledgement that "he wish he had done more"..., realize that it's never to late to reveal the information of the past, that would provide closure for someone out there, who have been carrying a burden for so many years.
Do The Right Thing All The Time:
Ones Convictions is the thing that one will not yield under any circumstances. Let "Doing The Right Thing All The Time" be your conviction, because doing the right thing will never create a burden in your heart, or cause a burden to live in the hearts of the family members of a victim of a unsolved crime.
