Chris Matthews accuses Romney, GOP of playing ‘race card’
Chris Matthews lashed out at Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus on Monday in Tampa during a live "Morning Joe" segment, with the feisty MSNBC host accusing Mitt Romney and the GOP of playing the race card in their campaign against President Barack Obama.
"It is an embarrassment to your party to play that card," Matthews said. "This stuff about getting rid of the work requirement for welfare is dishonest, everyone's pointed out it's dishonest, and you are playing that little ethnic card there. You can play games and giggle about it, but the fact is your side is playing that card. You start talking about work requirements, everyone knows what game you're playing. It's a race card."
Matthews railed Priebus over Romney's recent joke about the birther movement.
"This thing about if your name is Romney," Matthews said. "Yeah you went to prep school and you brag about it. This guy's got an African name, he has to live with it. Look who's going further in their life. Who was born on third base? This absurdity, making fun of the birth certificate issue."
"Of course he's playing the race card," he continued. "Why would he bring [the birth certificate] up?"
"Because he's an awkward joker," co-host Mika Brzezinski responded.
"He misfired badly on the joke," Joe Scarborough said.
Tom Brokaw, seated next to Matthews, called it a demonstration of Romney's "awkward sense of humor."
"I do think in fairness that during the debates there was a lot of stuff aimed at the president that was not refuted by leaders of the party," Brokaw said.
Priebus, who stayed mostly silent during Matthews' rant, eventually responded.
"I'm not going to get into a shouting match with Chris," Priebus said, calling his accusations "garbage."
"We've gotten to a point in politics where any moment of levity is frowned upon by guys like you just so you can push your brand," the RNC chairman said. "You know what, good for you."
Last week on "The Tonight Show," Matthews was far less critical of the GOP campaign, but alluded to Romney's awkwardness.
"He's a little remote, you know?" Matthews said. "He says things like, 'Oh, I just left the aircraft.' What are you, a Conehead? What planet are you from? Nobody talks like that. We earthlings have a certain language. [We say] 'I just got off the plane.'"

Today is
Chris Mathews Example of
How to "Challenge
Republican's Racism"
Chris Mathews: I applaud you Sir., your "Frankness" with the subject of Republicans playing the "race card" is the exact type of "Frankness" that is absolutely necessary when ever a white man is within the presence of a racist white man.
Your direct eye contact with Priebus, while you challenged Romney's "Birther" reference, forced Priebus into a disposition of that of a "liar" being caught in a lie, it forced Priebus to stutter, and shift in his seat uncomfortably, to the extent that he conceded eventually.
What you did Chris Mathews, in that 5.25 minute segment of air time on NBC's Morning Joe, was to challenge, not just the Republican Party Chairman in Mr. Priebus, you challenged the entirety of the Republican's foundational values, their statesmanship, and the content of the entire Republican's Character.
The Video at MSNBC
And as you challenged the Republican's Character, through Mr. Priebus, you created a sense of uncomfortable for the "so called" journalists that sat around you, and your challenge to Mr. Priebus, is the exact type of challenge that those so called journalist, cannot provide, because they are nothing more than statues, who would perform on any stage, like an monkey, if you gave it enough peanuts.
I applaud you Chris Mathews, for your doing the one thing that all white Americans ought to have done so long ago, and perhaps if other white men in America, who are not racist, who are not bigots, who are fare Americans who are sick of the degradation of this nation, due to ignorance and racism, we may find this country rising back to the top of all nations on earth.
We are all American Citizens..... "FIRST"
In all communities in America, we have those that cause discontent, strife, and bring burdens of emotional, and psychological displeasures, and we allow their presence to go unchallenged, and by doing so, we condone their acts and actions, thereby, allowing our communities and our hearts, to remain under thunder clouds constantly, because we are not strong enough to challenge those that have bad character.
Its our own fault that we end up in tough life situations, caused by those who's actions hurt the entire community, and not just the individual, simply because we choose not to challenge the family liar, cheat, or back stabber.
Words matter, the way that words are spoken matter, the order in which words leave the lips matter, and when we choose not to challenge the presenter of wrongly presented words, or its order of presentation, or the content of the words..., we enable that person to poison the entire community with lies, ms-representation, and mal intended innuendos.
The Cleansing of a Nation begins in each individual home
The Democratic Party, and the Republican Party are no more or no less honest than what we, the American Citizens, force them to be.
It's our own actions, or lack there of, that allows an elected official to take a bribe, or allow a Mr. Romney to get away with racist innuendos.
The Power of 300 Million votes against 20 thousand votes is the power of the poor against the rich, with the poor owning 300 Million Votes to the 20 thousand votes of the rich.
American Citizens, should never allow or participate in the electing of a wealthy person, into an official political office, unless that person have a proven history of a person who have display a life long history of "Giving Without Want".
Only a non-well-off person can represent and non-well-off person, yet, even that non-well-off person must have a proven history of "Giving Without Want".
It is the responsibility of every American to challenge racist and racism, for it's these mal character traits that require company, because a racist or racism, has no power when it's alone.
Today, Chris Mathews stood his ground, and I applaud him because Chris became "The Example" today.
